GI Direct holds the Chain of Custody (COC) certification. This demonstrates that our raw materials are sourced responsibly from FSC® certified sources. FSC® certified products support the growth of responsible forest management, which in turn enables our clients to adhere to their own environmental policies. Paper certified by the FSC® has been grown in a managed forestry environment and is from a responsible source. It also means that the paper was manufactured in an environmentally sensitive manner.

What is FSC®?
The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) is an international non-profit, multi-stakeholder organisation established in 1993 to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. Its main tools for achieving the goal are standard setting, independent certification and labeling of forest products. This offers customers around the world the ability to choose products from socially and environmentally responsible forestry.
Over the past 13 years, over 90 million hectares in more than 70 countries have been certified according to FSC® standards while several thousand products are produced using FSC®-certified wood and carrying the FSC® trademark. FSC® operates through its network of National Initiatives in 45 countries.
FSC®, as a market driven mechanism, empowers consumers to express their demand in the market for responsible forestry by offering an independent, global and credible label for forest products. Consumers can choose forest products with the confidence that they are not contributing to the destruction of the world’s forests. The FSC® mark guarantees that the product comes from responsible sources - environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable. The FSC® mark can be found on a wide range of timber and non-timber products from paper and furniture to medicine and jewelry.
Why did we adopt this standard?
The standard allows GI Direct to use paper reels which have been purchased from a responsible source. FSC® certification is beneficial to businesses, people and nature. Furthermore, FSC® helps to highlight social issues; it leads to greater transparency and brings companies into dialogue with communities.
What it does it mean to you?
If you request FSC® paper, we will able to use our Chain of Custody (COC) certification to apply the FSC® mark on your products. This will demonstrate to your clients that your mailing is made from a responsibly managed forest.
