Mailing Preference Service

The Mailing preference service (MPS) is a suppression file which allows consumers to register their wish not to receive unsolicited direct mail.

It is actively supported by the Royal Mail and all directly involved trade associations and fully supported by The Information Commissioners Office.  It is not a legal requirement however it is often seen as a measure of best practice and therefore is advisable for all acquisition mailings.  The use of the file will not just avoid bad feeling from unwanted mailings but will also guarantee a huge cost saving, after all it is a complete waste of money and resources mailing people that do not want to be mailed.

Unwanted mail can cause upset to the consumer and damage to the company's reputation, not to mention the fact that if a registrant of the MPS were to complain it could lead to a £5,000 fine.
